Billy finds Jack and unlocks his handcuffs on the understanding Jack wont hurt Janine. Once free Jacks furious and trashes Janine and Billys flat looking for the footage from the night before. Janine calls him; she has it on DVD and wants to do a deal. Jack realises shes going to show the footage at the Gazette party that night at R&R. He arrives at the club just as Janine starts the DVD. He tells her they might be able to do a deal, but not for R&R. Later Jack goes to Janines flat and in return for money and the DVD gives her a contract saying “She aint gonna be happy about this.” Zainab tells Ian that Jane and Christian broke into the unit and she wants to see them. Ians angry then bemused when Jane and Christian talk about their bartering tool “the naked truth.” The Masoods are angry but Jane and Christian persuade them that it makes sense to share the unit. Zainab adds chilli to a Shepherds pie destined for the Gazette party. An angry Jane confronts Zainab and the two women vow to destroy each others companies. Ian agrees Fit for a Queen can stay in business. Patrick says hes never felt so free. However, he confesses to Linda gambling is boring now nobody tells him off. He wants to clear out his house, but is upset when everyone else moves things around to suit them and Chelsea breaks a fan. Later Patrick comes home to find everything back to normal, and he takes delight in breaking the last fan. Bradley doesnt want to keep Gumbo, but Ben likes having the dog around

‘Excessive sweating while exercising means you’re not fit.’

If you’re fit, the more you’ll sweat. Sweating is the body’s way of cooling itself. This mechanism improves as you exercise regularly.

“As you get in better shape, your body learns to cool itself more efficiently. Blood is shunted to the skin’s surface more quickly via tiny blood vessels that dilate and radiate heat away from the body. At the same time, the sweat glands increase their output of a fluid-and-sodium mixture, which cools the body as it evaporates. While fit people produce more sweat than sedentary folks, they lose less salt, because more of it is reabsorbed by the body’s cells as it travels from the sweat glands to the skin’s surface. The result: More copious and diluted sweat, and more rapid cooling,” said Royce Flippin in American Health magazine.

‘You should exercise everyday to stay healthy.’

If God Himself rested on the seventh day after creating the world, we mortals deserve a break too. You don’t have to exercise vigorously everyday to stay fit since even minimal physical activity like gardening or housecleaning can work wonders on your body.

In fact, experts say you can cut your risk of heart disease, diabetes, and other ailments by 60 percent just by working out three times a week for 20 minutes. In between this, do what you want.

“Some beginners – in their zeal to make up for 20 years of neglecting their bodies – vow to exercise everyday for the next 20 years. This is not a good idea. If you’re trying to get fit, your workouts are only part of the equation; rest is just as important,” said Suzanne Schlosberg and Liza Neporent in “Fitness for Dummies.”

‘To build muscles, eat high-protein foods.’

This myth appears to have originated with the ancient Olympics. Early athletes thought they could acquire great strength by eating the raw meat of lions, tigers or animals with great fighting skills.

While meat is a good source of protein, loading up on it won’t make your muscles bulge since the latter actually contain 72 percent water and only 22 percent protein. Besides, most of us consume adequate amounts of protein from daily meals. Getting more from foods, powders or supplements won’t turn you into Arnold Schwarzenegger and may even damage your kidneys and liver.

“There is no scientific evidence supporting the popular belief that athletes require massive amounts of protein-rich foods or protein supplements. Surveys show that athletes often consume four to five times their actual requirements. Yet there is absolutely no health or performance benefit from high-protein eating,” according to Dr. Ellington Darden in “The Health Robbers.”

To build more muscles, you have to lift weights or perform some kind of weight-bearing activity religiously. In short, you have to work out instead of relying on the promises of protein drinks and pills.

I do love Christmas. Admittedly mine’s not completely focussed on the bible’s definition of Christmas, but then to me, the real meaning of the festive season is everyone getting along together, families reuniting, drinking too much and giving gifts. It’s on the gifts front I’ve really struggled this time around and have actually become stressed for the first time this year. For my dad, jeans seemed like a sensible option, but despite being a self-proclaimed fashion victim I found the choice of fitments bewildering. ‘Straight cut’, ‘boot cut’, ‘flared’, ‘indie low slung’ and ‘Kyoto baggy’ all exist. What next: ‘rapid fit?’

Despite the credit crunch it seemed everyone was after a pair of rapid fits too, as I was jostled up and down the high street. And that’s the thing with the general public – they cannot forward plan. The reason we were all fighting down the aisles, panicking we’d have nothing for our loved ones on Christmas Day was because a month ago when we knew there was one month and a day until the 25 December, we all sat back, put the kettle on and said “ages to go yet”.

If I’m being honest, I’m pretty rubbish at planning anything at all, hence why routine is king. I know that I have to be in the office by 8:30 Monday to Friday and that, football is Monday night at seven, and band practice is Tuesday at eight. The rest of the week involves me swearing at red lights and traffic jams as I realise I’ve not left enough time to get anywhere on time. Essays at University were the started the night before and finished the morning of the deadline.

Perhaps the area I am most unorganised/plain lazy in is the upkeep and maintenance of my car. At the start of every summer I lovingly wash it, scrub the alloy wheels, polish the exhaust, vacuum and dust the interior and vow to keep it this way forever more. A month later you could write your name on the dashboard in the dust and being able to see out of the dirty windscreen is a luxury.

This of course is purely the aesthetics of the car. The important aspects like oil levels, tyre pressures and screen wash are so, so vital to the safe running of my car, but due to me being an idiot are the least checked things. You see once work finishes I’m back to my unorganised self and that means I don’t have the time for things like safety maintenance.

It’s perhaps unsurprising then that the other day I was setting off on a grand tour of the UK, with the sun shining despite the freezing temperature only to be met with a worrying clattering sound from under the bonnet. Perturbed I stopped at a garage called Rapid Fit and asked them to have a look – hoping the ‘rapid’ in their name was apt, due to my lateness at embarking on my journey.

Much to my embarrassment, the engine wasn’t happy as, much like an alcoholic, it was in need of a drink – oil in this particular case. My year of neglect came to an end there and then and I now live my life in an organised manner – which includes regular oil checks. The road to Rapid Fit was also the road to Damascus in my case.

The great thing about the guys at Rapid Fit though was that they didn’t make me feel stupid and they do of course offer far more car servicing options than topping up oil for idiots. Because Rapid Fit is run by Ford, I’d never thought to use them before (until I had to) as I’ve bought Korean. Rest assured though, regardless of what make and model of car you own, you have access to the same parts and servicing as Mondeo Man or the Focus Family.

Even better, if you’re still unorganised as I used to be, there’s no need to book an appointment, just turn up and you’ll be served. Most of the work can be done while-you-wait which will surely find favour with everyone who’s in a rush to have their car fixed and grab those last few Christmas presents. The repairs on offer are extensive, with Rapid Fit’s main specialities including: tyres, exhausts, batteries, shock absorbers, brakes, clutches and cooling systems.

If I’ve a message to impart from this article it is to remember that a car is not just for Christmas but for life – so look after it.

Exercise is good for you – there’s simply no doubt about it!  However, I still meet clients on a daily basis who’ve vowed to dedicate themselves to an exercise program, only to quit after a month. Let’s face it, North Americans start and stop their fitness programs more frequently than they change their underwear.

I understand that buying gym memberships and large pieces of fitness equipment is downright unaffordable to much of the population – especially when that membership looses itself in the back of your wallet or that high-tech treadmill is being used as the most expensive clothes rack your basement has ever seen.  

When I became a certified personal trainer I soon learned after talking to clients, and seeing them come to the gym for a while only to suddenly disappear, that the key to a successful fitness program is fun!  That’s right exercise should be fun. I mean who ever said it should be a boring, tedious vacuum of your valuable time?

For some reason fitness has negative connotations for many new clients that I’ve met recently. I hear “exercise is just too boring” and “if I exercise I’ll have no social life” all the time when I meet new clients. The fact is that we all lead very busy lives and exercise is often figured into it as an afterthought behind work, family, social outings and even poker night. So let’s face it if exercise is just another leisure activity on your weekly schedule it has to be something you’ll look forward to or you simply won’t stick to it. That’s why I encourage everyone to switch up the word ‘exercise’ for ‘leisure activity’. After all, you would be certain to pen a social outing with your girlfriends into your daily planner, so why not get the girls together and go to a spin class or on a power walk?

In this day and age, fitness takes up on average an hour, 4-days a week of the average person’s time. So basically it has to be fun or people simply won’t put in that extra hour. The good news is that entertaining workouts have hit the fitness scene in a big way this year. Many are largely dance-inspired – including belly dancing, cardio strip, pole dancing and salsa dance workouts.

I tried a pole dancing-strip cardio workout with a few of my girlfriends a couple weeks ago, and trust me it had me laughing so hard, that alone gave my abdominal muscles a workout. We started with pole dancing – which is far more challenging than it looks. Believe me, it takes a large amount of upper body strength to keep yourself suspended from a pole, and swinging yourself around it is reasonably cardiovascular. The cardio strip was more like the sweaty high-intensity cardio workouts that I’m used to. The workout mimicked exotic dance movements, so the hip thrusts, kicks and abdominal twisting works parts of your body you didn’t know existed.

See, there’s absolutely no reason why fitness can’t be fun. Start by searching your local community centers and gyms for an activity that you really enjoy. Try tango lessons with your significant other, a bonding session of mother/baby yoga, a high-octane cardio kickboxing session with your best friend – all followed by a healthy lunch. By turning simple daily activities into something more rewarding, you get your fun social gathering and your workout in too!
